With financial support from various sources, selected orphans in ACC have participated in overseas “appreciation tours” during their summer and winter school holidays since 2007. These tours aim to achieve several goals. First, is to raise awareness about the high number of African orphans waiting for help. Second, to showcase the model of integrating Eastern and Western cultures with native African culture. The touring performance is designed to show sponsors the daily life of a child in the centres. Lastly, our orphans, through their heart-warming performances, get the opportunity to express their gratitude to their sponsors for the care, support, food, clothing, shelter and access to education.
An inter-school cultural exchange program is also offered during the orphans’ visits to various countries. The visiting orphans are given the opportunities to explore and appreciate the beauty of different cultures through music, dance and religion while preserving their own African culture. They get to interact with local students, learn how to respect and embrace diversity. In turn, the local students are given the opportunities to interact with African children, understand African cultures and their life circumstances. All the children involved get to contemplate about diversity. We believe these touring programs teach children about compassion, diversity, interdependence and equality, so as to cultivate peace and mutual respect.
To date, ACC representatives have visited Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. Canada and the United States of America in 2014.
